Rory McCarthy is a pianist and composer from Cork, Ireland. He has earned his reputation as a session musician working with some of Ireland's top acts including Brian Deady, Niall McCabe, John Blek and Caoilean Sherlock and Camilla Grieshal. He is a member of the well seasoned ‘Shaker Hymn’ and trad fusion group ‘Notify’ and works as MD for Pa Sheehy on his most recent solo venture.
'So we were told’ is Rory’s first release as a solo artist as he ventures into the ambient classical world, pushing the boundaries while drawing from his experiences in a multitude of genres. His influences are drawn from both the modern jazz world in the likes of Aaron parks and Neil Cowley and also the more traditional neo classical tones of Olafur Arnolds. This blend makes for an exciting prospect in the instrumental piano cosmos.
